Dear Friends,
Hi, I am Joanne Washington. I am someone who dealt with chronic homelessness 2009-2017. I was a single mother who lost my job & because I could not find the proper resources in time, I lost our home & vehicle. That sent me into a downward spiral, eventually leading me to live from place to place with a shelter in between. During this time, there was a brief lapse in parenting with me having to send my children to live with my church family until I was able to care for them properly because I was estranged from my family during the journey of homelessness. Unsure how to navigate through the feelings of hopelessness & helplessness, the thought of taking my life seemed to be the only solution to this problem… Today, I present to you a woman who had the faith to believe that life had more to offer not only to me but to my children and you. The experience I endured was not for me but to help others like the old me… existing & not living, living from paycheck to paycheck, having support services stop, experiencing gaps in services, & lack in the basic checks and balances.
